Home Decor – Commercial or Uncomplicated
The popularity of home decor, commercial, urban and rural juggernaut, has revolutionized the way people view interior decorating. In an era when a stuffed badger can be delicately placed beside a priceless antique as a statement of individuality, it becomes difficult to separate the wood from the trees. Especially when deciding on your own personal home interior style. It seems with every passing year that the urge to define ourselves through our home decor, commercial or not, is growing stronger, both locally and internationally. One of the boons of this trend is the extreme amount of availability of imported and designer goods in retails stores. It is possible to buy Indian, African and Egyptian cloth from the same store. In addition, the advent of various new materials such as long-lasting plastics, glass derivatives and metals has made the industry of home decor commercial.
How then do we take this massive influx of products and information and apply it to our own homes? There are many who share the urge to re-vamp their living space, but with so much information and general hype in the media, how does one know where to begin? The modern trend seems to tell us that the very best in appliances, designer interiors and art need to be expensive and durable. However, interior magazines are constantly praising the ingenuity of people who have created new looks from old or obsolete items. Awareness about ecology has brought environment friendly materials and interior application to the fore as home decor’s commercial influence changes its focus. Outfitting a modern home in commercial times need not be a challenge though:
• When it comes to appliances, buy quality products that have the aesthetics that appeal to you, they will last some time, so be sure about your choice. Smaller, decorative items need not be expensive or even functional as they seldom outlive their original appeal.
• Less is more. It is always better to have slightly less furniture and more space than to cram as much as possible into a smaller area. One or two well chosen pieces of furniture in a small room will always look more stylish than too many things that people are constantly walking around.
• Be sure to purchase items that are easy to maintain, keep clean and display well.
As contemporary design finds its niche in a modern world it helps to remember that even appliances such as your television can form a part of your interior look these days. Decide on what your lifestyle requires, pinpoint the needs, colors, moods and general ambiance you require and create it with anything from bottle-top art to a few well read books. The key is to explore your needs, experiment and keep changing your look, as you change.
